While visiting Los Angeles last week, I was able to collaborate with the amazing individuals of Proxart, an organization based out of the Santa Clarita Valley.

On a mission to save the suburbs from the definitions and stereotypes that others have constructed about it being a cookie-cutterville, Proxart is a new outlet for creating a community of individuals sharing passion for art, culture and community. A way for artists and musicians to connect and share their talent with locals. The truth is, it is not where you live--but rather the impact you make where you go and the difference in the lives you make of people you meet.

Spending the last four years of my life in two very different cities, my definition of home has been in transition. Although I grew up in the Santa Clarita Valley my entire life, I had always referred to it as my home. I always used to think that home was where my parents lived, then I went on to believe that 'home' was something more temporary and something I could have without mom & dad. I have now realized that I have multiple homes only because, to me, home is not necessarily a place, but rather a feeling.
Now I know that when I'm happy, I feel at home and I am very okay with that.

Contemporary Thinking

I really enjoy visiting museums, especially art museums. What I enjoy most about visiting is having the opportunity to view the world through perspectives that are beyond the normalized and contextualized mind. Contemporary art, to me, is difficult to describe in words but I believe is a reflection of the discourses around our 21st century and even beyond. By collaborating mixes of media, nature, and technology just to name a few; contemporary art creates a category for artists to play with the realities of everyday life through imagination.

On Sunday, I took a trip to the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla. The current art exhibit, I would argue, was one of the best I've seen. Titled "Here Not There", local contemporary artist either born or living in San Diego take a part the notion of "here" in correlation with the geographic, socioeconomic and cultural aspects of the City of San Diego. It was truly amazing to see each of the artists interpretations of "here" and how each are altered representations of the city of San Diego decontextualized.

Last Saturday Night

Another Stone Affair!
The eve of my birthday was spent with great company at Stone Brewery in North County. Cheers to another exciting year in which I will transition even more into adulthood with an open mind and heart.
